There are different types of measuring cups for dry ingredients and liquid. Make sure you use the proper cups for what you are measuring.
Dry Measures
- 3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon
- 2 tablespoons = 1/8 cup
- 4 tablespoons = 1/4 cup
- 5 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon = 1/3 cup
- 8 tablespoons = 1/2 cup
- 12 tablespoons = 3/4 cup
- 16 tablespoons = 1 cup
- 2 ounces = 1/4 cup
- 4 ounces = 1/2 cup
- 6 ounces = 3/4 cup
- 8 ounces = 1 cup
- a few grains = less than 1/8 teaspoon
- a pinch = as much as you can “pinch” between the tip of your index finger & your thumb
Liquid Measures
- 2 cups = 1 pint (16 fluid ounces)
- 2 pints = 1 quart (4 cups)
- 2 quarts = 1/2 gallon
- 4 quarts = 1 gallon
