Measurement Equivalents

There are different types of measuring cups for dry ingredients and liquid.  Make sure you use the proper cups for what you are measuring.

Dry Measures

  • 3 teaspoons       =  1 tablespoon
  • 2 tablespoons   =  1/8 cup
  • 4 tablespoons   =  1/4 cup
  • 5 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon =  1/3 cup
  • 8 tablespoons   =  1/2 cup
  • 12 tablespoons =  3/4 cup
  • 16 tablespoons =  1 cup
  • 2 ounces =  1/4 cup
  • 4 ounces =  1/2 cup
  • 6 ounces =  3/4 cup
  • 8 ounces =  1 cup
  • a few grains  =  less than 1/8 teaspoon
  • a pinch  =  as much as you can “pinch” between the tip of your index finger & your thumb

 

Liquid Measures

  • 2 cups  = 1 pint (16 fluid ounces)
  • 2 pints =  1 quart (4 cups)
  • 2 quarts = 1/2 gallon
  • 4 quarts = 1 gallon
